Baileys Icon Centre

Client: Baileys
Project Location: Dublin, Ireland
Value: £6,000,000
Form of Tender:J.C.T. Build
Designed by: Sarner

Located within an £11.5m development in Leopardstown, Dublin, members of the Idess team helped to create a unique theatrical, multimedia experience called ICON for international drinks company Baileys.  ICON takes visitors on a journey during which they learn about Irish landscapes, myths, legends and people, culminating in an understanding of the history that created Baileys.

The internal architecture covers 20,000ft² in total and was specifically designed by Sarner to house stunning scenic and AV effects, which include: the largest bar in Ireland, a recreated cascading waterfall and stream, a working mill building, a period street scene with real gas lamps and cobblestones and a multi-arched brick vault housing a classical library.  The centre seats 650 people has 3 separate bar facilities and 5 food outlets each with its own themed environment.

At the heart of the visitor experience is a 12 minute theatrical show, inspired by the Irish goddess of beauty, Eriu.  Visitors enter a large neolithic style auditorium where they are immersed into a multi-sensory heritage experience, created using digital technology.  This dramatic show uses layered slide and video projection, special mechanical effects and an engaging original soundtrack to portray the essence of Ireland, from its stunning landscapes to the passion of the Irish people.  At the end of the show, the audience experiences a simulated earth tremor, before the amphitheatre rotates and reveals the multi-layered runestones of ICON.
