The Idess team were appointed to design and build “Ghost Town”, a new gallery exploring the dramatic decline of the car industry in Coventry.
The project included the development of concepts by students at Salford University, using bold newspaper articles, based on Barbara Kruger's visual style.
The resulting gallery immerses visitors in a stimulating environment of contemporary news media and video interviews. Icon cars of the period displayed on angled ramps form set piece reconstructions for the visitors to explore. Ground breaking in its approach to recycling, sustainability and environmentally friendly materials the Gallery delivers a dynamic backdrop to present a balanced view of events, encouraging visitors to form their own answer to the question “What happened to the Coventry car industry?”
