Sustainable Recycled plastic sheets
ID Ess Cultural Development is in contact with Smile Plastics who are committed to sourcing and developing innovative ideas and markets for sustainable recycled materials, concentrating on transforming plastics waste into multicoloured sheets.
In 1994 Smile Plastics launched the company with sheets from recycled household plastic bottles. Since then Smile Plastics have made products based on crushed CDs, plastic water bottles, banknotes, and Dapple, scrap from their own factory. Smile Plastics now even have sheets made from old mobile phones and even kids’ wellies.
In 1994 a range of sheets made from old plastics bottles was launched. Originally containing shampoo, detergent or milk, the bottles have been collected, sorted, flaked and thoroughly washed to remove any remaining contaminants. Looking like multi-coloured corn-flakes the pieces are then compressed into sheets by a process of heat and pressure, which retains the colours of the original bottles.
The sheet materials in Smile Plastics second product range are made from high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and are harder and more rigid than the sheets from bottles.
Smile Plastics has range called Jazz, made from tough, industrial plastic. This material was originally underground utility pipes and is available in Blue (water) and Yellow (gas) in any ratio. The standard product is 50/50.
Since then Smile Plastics have launched products made crushed CDs, plastic water bottles, banknotes, and Dapple, scrap from our own factory. In 2003 we introduced recycled Mobile Phones and Wellies.
Recycled plastics sheets have been used extensively all over the world for retailers, museums, exhibitions and many other cultural developments.
